ST. LOUIS, MO- The Sperreng Middle School individualizes education and supports highly gifted students through the middle school years.   Educator Kimberly Crank had her incoming 8^th grade students read and annotate The Art of Learning over the 2011 summer.  She then taught the book during the first 3-5 weeks in the fall and had her students write a paper on the chapter of their choice incorporating quotations and personal opinions.  She said she is using Josh’s ideas to inspire the students to help them reflect on their own learning styles and to learn to write effectively.

VISAKHAPATNAM, INDIA- Jayshree Hatangadi, Education Director, works as a consultant facilitator for several education programs for children in government municipal schools. ONTARIO, CANADA- Jeffrey Schaeffer is using The Art of Learning with his 8^th grade class. Students read the introduction of the text in small groups and then continued the discussion on their class website.  Here, pupils can respond to assigned questions and respond to entries made by their peers. As the weeks go by, Jeffrey will provide a more comprehensive account of how they are utilizing the text.   Jeffrey’s goal is to inspire and prepare learners for life in the changing world community. TOLEDO, OH- The Mentoring Collaborative is a formal mentoring program housed in the Judith Herb College of Education on the campus of The University of Toledo. The program provides support for student mentors at the University who serve historically marginalized elementary school students through one-to-one mentoring, workshops and other activities that help them excel in academics as well as in leadership and service and community engagement. Program Facilitator Sheila Doles is using The Art of Learning to expand the student mentor program and improve early-age literacy, socialization skill development and overall learning skills.
